Hi, I’m Maryann.
I’m a global wealth and investment strategist based in Zurich, Switzerland. For more than two decades I worked inside international private banking and Chief Investment Officer ecosystems, advising ultra-high-net-worth families and helping oversee capital within multi-billion-dollar investment platforms.
My career has been centered on stewarding capital; identifying compelling investment opportunities, selecting managers and funds, constructing portfolios, and guiding long-term wealth decisions for families and institutions.
At the heart of that responsibility is a simple question:
Where is the next compelling investment opportunity emerging?
A few years ago, that question led me somewhere unexpected. A personal health crisis collided with two decades of being an insider in the capital markets and it revealed something I couldn’t unsee.
Women’s health isn’t broken. It’s mispriced.
Despite representing half the global population, women’s health has historically been under-researched, under-measured, and under-capitalized. What initially looked like a medical issue was, in fact, something else: one of the largest market inefficiencies in healthcare. The deeper I looked, the clearer the disconnect became.
What started as an investment question turned into years of research, conversations with founders and investors, and a growing body of writing here on Substack. Eventually, that work became a book.
The Billion Dollar Blindspot
My upcoming book, The Billion Dollar Blindspot, examines how women’s health became one of the most persistent blind spots in modern medicine and capital markets.
For decades, the systems that shape healthcare innovation; research funding, clinical trials, regulatory frameworks, and venture capital were built around incomplete data about women’s bodies. The result was a structural disconnect between women’s health needs and where capital has historically flowed.
As demographic shifts, technological advances, and new founders begin to reshape the healthcare landscape, that disconnect is starting to close revealing an enormous, previously overlooked market.
The Billion Dollar Blindspot traces how this hidden market emerged, why it is now accelerating, and how investors can recognize the opportunities forming as women’s health innovation finally begins to catch up.
What this Substack explores
This newsletter sits at the intersection of capital markets and healthcare innovation.
Every week I explore:
Market signals across women’s health, longevity, and diagnostics
Case studies of founders building solutions medicine overlooked
Frameworks for evaluating traction, credibility, and exits
Investor insights connecting purpose with performance
The goal is to help readers understand where healthcare innovation is heading and where capital may follow. You won’t find clickbait or recycled takes here.
Just grounded thinking about how markets, science, and capital interact.
The ecosystem behind this work
This Substack is part of a broader effort to bring women’s health into the mainstream of capital allocation.
I founded the FemmeHealth Alliance, a Swiss-based non-profit that brings together investors, scientists, founders, and policymakers working to accelerate women’s health innovation.
Our mission is simple: to make women’s health visible, investable, and impossible to ignore.
Alongside the Alliance, this newsletter has grown into a community of readers who believe capital markets can generate returns while correcting systemic blind spots.
