With all the new information that’s been reshaping the conversation these past 5 or 6 years also comes with the uptick of the commercialization of it which can be a new problem. It’s now suddenly “in” to speak about it but that doesn’t necessarily come from the right people with the knowledge and education to inform women correctly. The markets are flooding the space for profit using menopause or perimenopause as a catch phrase for profit. Women like you who highlight women’s health as a whole and the lack of support & interest that has affected us because men have dominated the outgoing information around it for so long are so important😊

Such an important point, Elise. Visibility is necessary, but visibility without evidence can create a different problem. One of the things that worries me is that as menopause becomes more commercially attractive, the conversation can drift toward marketing before the science has fully caught up. The challenge is making sure the increased attention translates into better research, better care, and better outcomes for women.

Thank you for sharing this important insight. The world is shifting in ways that go beyond information and technology. The people that will run these technologies will look different too. And that is why the conversation is shifting. Not because of a change of heart but a change of power.

And that is when we will realize just how powerful blending both energies are!

Thank you, Natacha. That line about power really resonated. Capital often follows visibility, and visibility often follows influence. The real opportunity is making sure that shift in attention translates into better evidence, better care, and better outcomes.

I just finished writing a five part series on the hypernovelty that is the lengthening perimenopausal period--and how the fact that it has gone unnamed has meant that many women living here are having trouble navigating its terrain. My hope is that in giving this phase shape beyond just an in-between period, women can better mine the power that lies in its creative force. https://substack.com/@juliaromano/p-196256965
